Panama

A cross roads by land for millennia and a canal for a century.

A country shaped by those who have come and those who have gone.

500 years ago, Panama’s unique position in the Americas was seen with European eyes, and with it, a dream of connecting two oceans was born.  A dream that would become reality 400 years latter through technological advances, and the deaths of tens of thousands.  A creation that saved ships 8000 miles of travel and forever changed the trajectory of the country, politically and economically.

As a land bridge between the Americas, flora, fauna and people have long traversed and enriched the diversity of Panama.  Ironically, dividing the country with a canal in 1914, accelerated its diversity of people, cultures, languages, and understanding of itself in ways that a land bridge never could.

While our time in this part of the Americas was brief, there remains much for us to see and learn here.  An opportunity we hope the future holds for us.
